Curriculum Overview

Pelangi School Curriculum is based on the British National Curriculum combined with the Indonesian National Curriculum and is taught by qualified International and Indonesian teachers.

English is the core language with Bahasa Indonesia taught as the second language, enabling the students to develop speaking, listening and reading comprehension as well as writing skills in both languages.

At Pelangi School we focus on creating a challenging learning environment where ideas can flourish and children can realise their full potential with the encouragement of highly motivated teachers. Our children develop confidence, courage and a love of learning. They are taught to think independently and work collaboratively. They acquire enduring and adaptable practical skills, open and tolerant attitudes and rich memories. Gifts for life.

EARLY YEARS PROGRAM

  • TINY TOTS - ages 1.5-3 years
  • PLAYGROUP - ages 3-4 years
  • TK A (Junior Kindergarten) - ages 4-5 years
  • TK B (Senior Kindergarten) - ages 5-6 years

Tiny Tots and Playgroup offer a purely play-based introduction to Pelangi. Our program provides children with the opportunity to interact with others in a safe and nurturing environment, whilst gently encouraging learning skills through creative play, music and movement.

Starting in TK A and continuing throughout TK B the curriculum encompasses the following six key areas of learning:

  • Personal, social and emotional development
  • Communication, language and literacy
  • Problem solving, reasoning and numeracy
  • Knowledge and understanding of the world
  • Physical development
  • Creative development

We nurture the imagination of our children using a variety of engaging media, art and crafts incorporating natural and recycled materials, music, song and out-door activities while gently and creatively introducing the foundations of math and literacy skills. The children also learn the social arts of sharing, assertiveness and diplomacy within safe boundaries.

PRIMARY SCHOOL PROGRAMME

SD (ages 6-12 years)

Building on the basic principles introduced in the Early Years Program, Pelangi students are given a strong foundation in the core subject areas of English, math, science, social studies, the arts, environmental studies and Bahasa Indonesia.

Small class groups allow our teachers to attend to the children's different ways of learning. They often use holistic teaching methods that focus on educating the whole child and nurturing individuality.

English Language and Literature
The primary goal of our English Program at Pelangi is to teach and model the skills necessary for children to understand, respond and express them selves articulately. Students are taught to read, think and write creatively through encouraging a love of literature.

Math
In Math, we solidify the arithmetic foundation that has been developed in the early years. As the children are introduced to greater levels of abstract thinking, they are taught to apply these tools to more complex forms and problem solving.

Science
Our science program strives to give students the knowledge and skills needed to ask questions, start discovering answers and communicate ideas about themselves and the world around them. An experiential, inquiry-based approach is at the heart of Pelangi's science teaching and learning.

Social Studies
Our Social Studies program provides an understanding of the world in which we live and an appreciation for the rich diversity of humankind. Our goal is to give students a sense of themselves and others, a pride in their own cultural roots and a context of their place in the larger world. Children begin by investigating their own families, later expanding their view and knowledge of the world to include school community continuing on to geography and global social studies.

Art
Art is everywhere at Pelangi with art projects often integrated within different curriculum subjects. Students learn about the elements and principles of art through a wide range of media and techniques.

They are encouraged to experiment with creative drawing, painting, print and collage, tactile art forms such as ceramics, as well as exploring the performing arts and music. They have many opportunities to share their art with others through exhibits around their classroom and campus and in regular performances and plays.

Environmental Studies
Environmental studies are integrated into the curriculum in all subjects from Science to the Arts. Children are encouraged to learn responsibility for their own environment by recycling, reusing and reducing waste. They are taught to be aware of the importance of water and how to use it wisely. They learn to make compost and grow their own fruit and vegetables in the school's organic gardens which supply the new School Café with healthy, wholesome snacks and lunches.

Bahasa Indonesia
Within Bahasa Indonesia lessons, students develop speaking, listening and reading comprehension as well as writing skills.

They learn about culture and are exposed to a variety of materials, including print media. A special emphasis is placed on oral proficiency.

DAILY DROP-IN RATES FOR SHORT TERM VISITING STUDENTS

Pelangi Drop-In rates have been created to benefit the community of temporary visitors to Bali who are seeking a short-term solution for their children's education & care.

The focus of Drop-In is for the younger children: Tiny Tots, TKA/B & Playgroup. For the older SD grades, Drop-In can be distracting for the regular students and an extra burden on the teachers. Therefore different policies apply for different grades.

Some Drop-In Information

  • TT, PG, TKA & TKB can do Drop-In for up to 10school days, more than that will require the student to register as a full time student and pay all applicable full time tuition and fees.
  • For SD, students must commit to a minimum of 20 school days (one calendar month) to qualify for Drop-In. Attendance at Pelangi for more than 20days would require the student to register as a full time student and pay all applicable full time tuition and fees.
  • If a student a attends Drop-In for the maximum allotted time and then decides to enroll full time in Pelangi, the cost of the Drop-In will be applied towards the student's full tuition & fees for the year.
  • Registration & Payment of Tuitions/Fees for Drop-In students must be paid 48hrs in advance before a student can start classes, unless otherwise agreed to by the acting Administrator. A student will not be permitted in school unless fees are paid in advance.
  • THERE ARE NO REFUNDS FOR TUITION & FEES AT ANYTIME.

More information on Drop-In Policies and prices can be found in the downloadable application to your right.
