Our First Athletics Carnival

On Friday 27th September all students from TKA (Kindergarten) through to our senior classes participated in our first ever Pelangi School Athletics Carnival.

The excitement was palpable as our school community met at the Abianseka Soccer Field in Mas to begin a day of running, novelty races and some healthy house team competition. Wearing their house colours with pride, the Kingfishers in blue, Monkeys in yellow and Geckos in green, were full of team spirit and were ready to cheer each other on.

The day began with the 25 metres running race for our Kindergarten and early primary students, and throughout the morning our students had chances to join in the 50, 100, 200 and 400 metres races. It was the first time many of our students had been presented with the opportunity to run longer distances.  There were also some novelty events, such as the sack race for our youngest classes and the three-legged race for grade 2s and up. It was great to see the spirit of participation, with everyone having a go, and also some hidden talents emerge with some excellent runners being discovered!

The houses received team points for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in events and also some teamwork points for things such as keeping their area clean and tidy, sporting attitudes and the creative cheers each team presented.

Overall, it was a great day, with lots of fun had by all.

Even our Tiny Tots and Playgroup classes, though not joining us at the venue, participated in house team games at school.

Well done everyone. In the end it was the Monkeys house that were victorious with the most points being earned. Congratulations to the Monkeys!
