For several years Pelangi School and The Mosquito Lady have joined forces to protect the Pelangi School community from Dengue Mosquitoes.  Dengue is a serious virus transmitted by mosquitoes and can sometimes be fatal.

Our aim has been to eradicate breeding areas and therefore removing all standing water and plants that harbor catchments allowing mosquito breeding to occur. In doing so we have drastically reduced the amount of mosquitoes in the school grounds and surrounding areas.

Reducing the mosquito population has been relatively simple.  The most effective strategies have been consistent attentiveness and regular inspection.  Mosquito Lady staff patrol and inspect the school grounds on a weekly basis and outer school areas once a month.   Working with Pelangi staff, to remove or rectify any problem areas. Mosquito Lady has been instrumental in helping us to maintain the school grounds as a Dengue free zone!

It is hoped that Mosquito Lady and Pelangi School will continue to work together keeping Pelangi School safe, as well as increasing awareness in the wider community of the importance of creating a safe, mosquito free, environments.
